Fun Size iPad~

Last Friday Apple Inc. launched its new iPad mini which attracted many crowds worldwide, from Tokyo to New York. Similar to previous Apple product launches, opening day had people lining up for hours or even days. A few hundred people lined up at Apple’s Fifth Avenue store in New York just days after the city was destroyed by one of the biggest storms to ever hit the United States, Hurricane Sandy. Due to the super storm however Apple had to delay the store’s opening time to 10 a.m. for this launch which was previously 8 a.m. Surprisingly many Asian consumers were excited to get their hands on the 7.9-inch slate. There were massive queues of 200 or more outside Apple stores in Tokyo and Seoul when the device went on sale.

In attempts to retain premium position, Apple priced their new device at $329 for a WiFi only model. This price is a lot costlier than predicted. Some other competitors include: Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7, both products are priced relatively similar to the iPad. Today, apple reported that it sold three million iPads in the first three days of its launch of the iPad mini and fourth-generation model iPad.

I’m super impressed at Apple’s ingenuity for squeezing the iPad’s basic features into a smaller component that can be easily used on the go. However I do feel that Apple might be losing their creative visionary and they might not be able to continue ahead of the pack.

                             Apple- Introducing iPad mini

A beautiful screen, fast and fluid performance, FaceTime and iSight cameras, over 275,000 amazing apps, and 10-hour battery life make iPad mini every inch an iPad.

Good first post Jill. IMO (which doesn't mean much), I feel there is little use for this product (with the exception of some circumstances). It's purely a cash grab. Larger screen is better of course and if you prefer something smaller and more trasnportable, then simply an iPhone or iPod does the same trick as the iPad Mini. One thing it does, is provide another option...but as mentioned, IMO, it's only just that - another option/alternative to two already similar products (nothing new).

By the way, love the choice of background/colour scheme.

I personally agree with my rival, Mr. Lamanna, on this topic. The launch of the Ipad mini is just another scheme that Apple is using to get some more revenue. I am starting to dislike Apple for this matter because they are turning purely business-minded unlike before when they actually used to care about the needs/wants of the customers. Another example which clearly illustrates my point are some of the features on the IPhone 5. Apple decided to make a new audio jack for the IPhone 5 which makes it incompatible with the normal audio players unless you have a new cable which lets you connect those together. Apple did this because they knew that people would want the accessories and thus they can make some extra revenue.

Nice post Jill :) apple topics are always interesting but in my opinion this product is almost completely useless. Making the Ipad mini is just a way to make money. There is really no difference between the products except for the change in size, that alone isn't even much of a change. Personally I think Apple is running out of ideas and trying to sell old products with a slight change labelling it "new" just to make a profit which is pretty dumb. I was never really and apple fan, and this jsut proves that all they care about is money.

Hello Jill, nice post. I think Apple is overdoing it, I mean it's nothing new. Maybe the Ipad mini is more portable but there are other devices made by apple which are also portable and efficient to use. Apple seems to be desperate, its al business. The Company needs to make something fantastic, something out of this world by the time the next device comes out. They need new innovative ideas to stay on top, before Android takes over. After Steve Jobs died, Apple seems to have difficulty staying on top of the market. They need to amaze their customers before the corporation looses them all.

i also agree that apple is just creating the same product over and over, and its nothing new, maybe only the size or an additional app, yet the charge more every time something new comes out? i understand that yes, its fun. it last... but they should come up with new and more interesting ideas. To be honest apple is not that great after Steve Jobs has passed away.

I agree with you when you say apple is creating similar products again, and again and how they may be losing their originality. They should be making products to help them come out on top or else they're going to start dropping, and it may be too late for them.

I agree that Apple is creating the same products over and over again. I think that people are starting to get tired of these same products. Apple should provide a better variety of products to make people interested in them. If they keep making the same products over and over again, their business is going to fail.

Although the iPad Mini has been a success, it still doesn't change the fact that its just a smaller version of the original. Personally, I think that this is a waste of money and time for Apple to make a product that has already been made a few years ago, but in a smaller version. $329 (starting price) with no retina display and pretty much the same features as the previous two? I think I'll pass on this one. However, expect a much more upgraded version of the Mini in 2013.
